Explore Nanyuki Safaris

Gateway to Mount Kenya and Ol Pejeta

Welcome to Nanyuki, a lively highland town in Laikipia County that sits right on the equator at the foot of Mount Kenya. About a three- to four-hour drive north of Nairobi, it is one of the best bases in Kenya for combining wildlife, mountains and forests in a single trip.

Nanyuki safaris with Bamm Safaris Adventures start with game drives in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, home to the Big Five, endangered black rhinos and the last two northern white rhinos in the world. Ol Pejeta also runs the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees.

Why Choose Nanyuki Safaris?

For active travellers, Mount Kenya safaris and hiking tours lead you through bamboo forests and alpine moorland on routes managed by the Kenya Wildlife Service. Ngare Ndare Forest tent camping adds canopy walks and swims in clear blue pools, while the private conservancies of Laikipia offer quiet, exclusive wildlife encounters. Whatever your budget or interests, our team will tailor the perfect Nanyuki safari for you.

Best Time to Visit Nanyuki

Nanyuki is open year-round, but timing shapes your trip. Dry seasons bring easier wildlife viewing and better hiking, while the rains turn the plains green and bring fewer visitors

Nanyuki Dry Season

Period: Late June to October, January to March
What to Expect: Wildlife gathers around water sources, game viewing in Ol Pejeta is easier and Mount Kenya trails are in better condition. July to October is busier, so book early. At about 1,950 metres, mornings and evenings are cool, so pack a warm layer.

Nanyuki Wet Season

Period: April to May (long rains), November (short rains)
What to Expect: The plains turn green, birdlife is at its best and lodges are quieter with better rates. Some forest and mountain trails get muddy, so bring rain gear and good boots.
