The Great Wildebeest Migration in Kenya

The 7th Wonder of the World

The Great Wildebeest Migration is one of the most dramatic wildlife events on Earth. More than 1.5 million wildebeest, joined by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, move in a huge loop between Tanzania’s Serengeti and Kenya’s Maasai Mara in search of fresh grass and water.

From about July to October, the herds arrive in the Mara, and our Great Wildebeest Migration safaris put you right in the middle of the action. Watch thousands of animals gather on the banks of the Mara River before plunging into crocodile-filled water, while lions, leopards and cheetahs follow close behind.

We plan every detail, from your game drives with experienced guides to tented camps close to the crossing points. Call or WhatsApp us on +254 754 004 003 to book your migration safari.

When Is the Great Wildebeest Migration?

The migration never stops, but where the herds are depends on the rains. Here’s a month-by-month guide to help you plan the best time for your Great Wildebeest Migration safari.

January to March

The herds are in the southern Serengeti in Tanzania for the calving season, when around 8,000 calves are born each day.

April to May

The long rains begin and the herds move north through the central Serengeti.

June

The herds reach the western Serengeti and cross the Grumeti River.

July to October

Peak season in the Maasai Mara, with dramatic Mara River crossings, especially in August and September.

November to December

The short rains begin and the herds head back south to the Serengeti.
